These Masala Hash Browns are a bold, flavorful twist on the classic, made with russet potatoes, oat flour, and a warm blend of spices including turmeric, coriander powder, chili flakes, and salt. Shaped into golden patties and baked in the air fryer or oven with absolutely zero oil, they deliver the perfect balance of crispy on the outside and soft on the inside – without any grease or heaviness.

Unlike traditional hash browns that are pan-fried or deep-fried, these are 100% oil-free, refined ingredient–free, and naturally wholesome, making them ideal for clean eating, weight-friendly meals, and plant-based diets. Oats add fiber and structure, while potatoes provide comfort and satiety, all elevated with aromatic spices for a crave-worthy finish.

Best served with my Ultimate Four Ingredient Hot Sauce, these masala hash browns are perfect for breakfast plates, brunch spreads, snack cravings, or healthy meal prep. Big flavor, clean ingredients, and zero oil – exactly how comfort food should be.

Instructions

  1. Wash, peel, and grate the russet potatoes.

  1. Transfer them to a bowl, add 1 tablespoon salt, mix, and let them sit for 10 minutes to release excess water.

  1. After 10 minutes, place the grated potatoes in a muslin cloth (or clean kitchen towel) and squeeze out as much water as possible. This step is crucial for getting crispy hash browns.

  1. Add the drained potatoes to a pot of boiling water and blanch for 3–4 minutes only. Do not overcook. Drain immediately using a strainer.

  1. Transfer the blanched potatoes to a mixing bowl. Add:

    • 1 cup oat flour

    • ¼ tbsp turmeric powder

    • 1 tbsp coriander powder

    • ½ tbsp chili flakes

  1. Mix well. Taste and add more salt if needed.

  1. Form the mixture into classic hash brown shapes or any shape you prefer.

  1. Place the hash browns on a lined tray or air fryer basket.
Bake or air fry at 400°F (200°C) for 20–25 minutes, flipping halfway, until both sides are crispy and golden brown.

  1. Serve hot with my Ultimate Four Ingredient Hot Sauce for the perfect spicy, clean, oil-free pairing.
